Denai Storm by Tiffany Shand

After her husband, Jason is kidnapped, Denai witch Cate McCray will stop at nothing to get him back. Along with her team of enforcers, Cate and her allies venture into the country of Setara to find Jason and bring him home.

But going into the heart of the Covenant’s territory comes with its own risks and saving Jason could have dangerous repercussions. Back at home, the team faces a killer lurking on the streets of their city. What kind of new enemy have the Covenant sent after them now, and what price will they all have to pay for going up against them?

“It’s the blood rage.” Drake pulled free of his chains. “Stay away from her. She’ll kill us all.”

“But that’s not possible. The blood rage was outlawed by the coven centuries ago,” said Charlie, as Drake pulled her behind him.

“What is it?” asked Jalen. “What’s wrong with her?”

“Blood rage is where a Denai gives into the dark side of her gift. It’s an uncontrollable force where the witch gives into her power and the power takes control of her. It can only be brought on when the witch loses someone they love,” Charlie explained, pushing in front of Drake. “Seline told me about it. It shouldn’t be possible. The magic was outlawed a long time ago, and it can only be taught by another Denai.”

“Cate is the Goddess Marked. I doubt there’s much beyond her abilities,” Steve said. “Something must have happened to Jason.”

Steve made a move to go to his sister. “Stay away from her,” Drake warned. “I saw this once a long time ago. When a Denai enters the blood rage there’s no coming back from it. She’ll kill anyone who gets in her way. She won’t know friend from foe. There’s no reasoning with her now.”

“Most Denais die after they go into the blood rage,” Charlie said, glancing around at the others. “What should we do?”

Cate overheard the conversation but none of them mattered. She had only one goal now to kill Vicus and those responsible for Jason’s death.

Two Devas came charging towards them, staff weapons drawn. Their eyes, their long black hair brought back the image of Vicus into her mind. She raised her hand, energy impacted the air like thunder as she locked them within her power.

“She doesn’t need to touch Devas now to be able to compel them,” Charlie muttered. “Seline said that a witch in the blood rage is stronger and deadlier than they normally are. Their powers become limitless.”
“Command us.” One of the Devas said. “What do you want us to do?”

But no, death at her touch was not enough. She raised her hand again. Through her other sight she saw the tendrils of power that made up each Deva. With a twist of her fingers, she yanked the spells apart. Each Deva sparkled with coloured light as the spells used to create them unravelled and the power within violently exploded outwards. The earth beneath their feet trembled as the other buildings came crashing down.

How To Write A Great Blurb.

Writing a blurb is often a challenge for many authors and one they dread doing. But your blurb is one of your most powerful marketing tools and the second thing potential buyers look at after your cover.

Blurb writing needn’t be a chore and can be broken down into four essential elements.

1. Talk about your main character or characters. Characters are what draw readers into a story and keep them wanting more. Talk about your characters, don’t be shy. Took about them in an interesting way to gain the reader’s attention and entice them to one to learn more.
2. Don’t be misleading. Whatever you do when writing your blurb don’t mislead the reader. Don’t pretend your characters something they’re not. If readers are expecting a romance but your story has only a small romantic element to it though traitor the Romans.

3. Don’t give everything away. One common mistake many writers make is giving away too much in the blurb. Just give away enough to entice the reader want to learn more about your characters and what happens in your story.

4. Keep the reader wanting more. Writing a cliff-hanger is a great way to end the blurb and getting the reader to want to find out what happens in the book. Just right enough to make them want to find out what happens next and keep them wanting more.

James: Witch-Hunter by K.S. Marsden

Cover Reveal

Title: James: Witch-Hunter
Author: K.S. Marsden
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Release date: 1st October 2017

~Prequel to the Witch-Hunter trilogy~

James Bennett is a Yorkshire lad, making the big move to Oxford to start university.
His ambitions involve getting a good education; impressing the Rugby Club; and not throttling his roommate. All perfectly normal drama, until Hallowe'en.

A girl's murder throws James into the dangerous world of witches, and those that hunt them.

After playing a sidekick in the Witch-Hunter trilogy, it's only fair that James gets to be centre stage in his own prequel.
This can be read as a stand-alone, and does not contain any spoilers. It may contain witches, bad jokes and cringe-worthy scenes; but definitely no spoilers.

Charlotte had just made her second coffee of the day, when she heard a very insistent banging at the front door. Not in the mood for visitors, she reluctantly opened it.
And was met by the sight of James.
      In a dress.
“I'll never get used to your humour, James.” She said, stepping aside and letting him in. “Fancy some fresh coffee? And when I say fresh, I mean instant stuff I've only boiled once.”
James closed the door behind him, and made his way through the narrow corridor to Charlotte's tiny kitchen.
Charlotte promptly poured an extra coffee and added sugar, her normally bright eyes were red, and it was clear she'd been crying.
“I broke up with Nathan.” She said, looking embarrassed that he had to see her like this.
“I think my roommate's a murderer.” James countered.
Charlotte handed him a mug of coffee, shaking her head. “When a girl says she's broken up with her boyfriend, most people would offer... never mind. You win. Why is Hunter a murderer?”
James gently lowered himself down onto Charlotte's rickety sofa. “I followed him last night. He was bein' weird, and I have a tracker on his phone-”
“And he went to this warehouse, where...” James trailed off, his throat closing around the words.
Charlotte misread his inability to speak, and gently rubbed his shoulder. “It's alright, you're safe here. Who do you think he killed?”
“Bea.” James gasped out. “You remember the blonde, Scottish lass? They hooked up at start of term; then the other night she was looking for him; next thing you know, she's dead!”
Charlotte put down her coffee cup, her hand shaking too much to hold it. She looked at James in all seriousness, “And you saw Hunter kill her?”
James shook his head, thinking back to last night, and the hooded figures. He was sure it was Hunter, “I couldn't clearly see who it was, but why would Hunter be there? It's one hell of a coincidence, that he bails on the Hallowe'en party and ends up at the same warehouse where the girl he was shagging ends up getting sta-”
“Did you physically see him there?” Charlotte asked.
“No, I was following a tracker.” James admitted.
“An illegal tracker, that'll never hold in court, James.”
James snorted, “Trust the trainee-lawyer to say that.”
“Hey, I'm just trying to see every angle.” Charlotte said, punching his arm. “There could be another, perfectly normal explanation. Maybe someone mugged Hunter and stole his phone – that sort of person would be more likely to head to the dodgy side of town.”
“Ha, it'd have to be the king of muggers to get the better of Hunter.” James argued. “He's super-fast, super-strong, and has anger issues. Which all adds up to someone very capable of murder.”
“Do you not remember how we first met? It's not often I get thrown against a wall, instead of the usual handshake. And I do rugby training with him – trust me, it's like getting hit by a car-”
      “James, you're exaggerating.” Charlotte sighed.
“And I've seen him run – I forgot to show you.” James dug out his phone from the flowery handbag, and quickly found the video he'd taken weeks ago. “Look – look how fast he is! And don't you find it weird that he's never that fast in rugby games? It's almost like he's holding back.”
Charlotte looked at the video, and when the brief clip was over, she shrugged, “It doesn't look that fast to me.”
“Well, it seemed it when I was watching with my own two eyes.” James tucked his phone away. “He's not normal.”
“Yes, but there's a huge leap between what's not normal, and a killer.” Charlotte said, exasperated. “Don't get me wrong; I want to help you James, I really do... have you been to the police?”
“Yes, I stayed there overnight.” James answered. “I got knocked out, and some cop must'a found me. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in a cell.”
“Oh no, what happened? Did someone attack you?”
James opened his mouth the speak, but he didn't even know what to say. He remembered getting knocked off his feet by some powerful force, but that didn't make sense.
“What did the police say?” Charlotte asked, when it was clear James wasn't giving her an answer.
He shrugged, “Not much, just that Bea had died. They were dodging a lot of my questions.”
“That's normal police protocol for an ongoing investigation.” Charlotte said, knowledgably.
James shook his head. “There was summat not right about the whole thing. It just felt shady.”

Guest Post by  Carolyn Arnold:

Writing Serial-Killer Fiction

The world seems to be uniquely fascinated and captivated by the mystery of serial killers. What motivates them to kill, and why do they choose certain people to be their victims? As fiction writers, we need to harness that intrigue, but we also should be very careful not to allow our work and characters to become cliché. That feat is certainly a tough one—especially since most stories have already been written!—but it can be done. It’s all about making your work extraordinary by creating your own distinct slant and personalized voice. And let’s not forget that it’s up to you to make sure your storytelling is superb.

But there’s even more to it than good writing and coming up with a unique motivation and method of operation (MO) for your serial killer. You also have to know how your investigator is going to realistically look at the case. You want to portray your main character—for example, an FBI agent—as following and working through the investigative process the way one would if he or she was living and breathing. If you don’t, you risk losing your reader, not only for that book but possibly for future ones, too.

So where do you begin when you want to write this kind of fiction? Let’s start with what constitutes a serial killer. The basic definition requires a series of three or more killings that, due to characteristics such as an MO, can be attributed to one individual.

From here, the serious authors do their due diligence to educate themselves both in the mindset of a killer and the investigator, as well as in accurate police procedure. They should search online and reach out to real-world contacts for direction and feedback. As they do this, they’ll come to see a basic formula and start to recognize common terms and phrases, such as cooling-off period, trigger, organized, disorganized, hunter, sexual sadist, and the list goes on. As they dig even deeper, they will start to understand all that is involved in building a profile, as well as how and what information the investigator needs to compile a solid lead.

While writing serial-killer fiction takes a lot of research, it is very rewarding. As an author, you provide entertainment to many readers, it’s true, but you are also shining light on a dark part of society. You are going beyond the surface of the horror and providing some clarity into these heinous crimes and the minds of those who commit them.

Remnants Book Overview:

All that remains are whispers of the past…

When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case.

With no quick means of identifying the victims, building a profile of this serial killer is proving more challenging than usual. How is the killer picking these victims? Why are their limbs being severed and bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this killer to murder?

The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: the killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time…

Devon Phoenix

I was about to pull my fingers from the large mirror when I again felt the same strong piercing deep in my chest. The air sucked from the room, and I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand away from my flesh.
To my horror, I hadn’t the ability to pull my hand free.
The piercing grew stronger, like a vast needle threading my heart and sewing me to the glass as panic spread through me. I struggled to pull my hand free, but to no avail.
I don’t want this. I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me in return. I don’t want to fail.
What I did want was to back away, but I was frozen in place. I fought it, yet I had no choice but to yield to the overpowering pull.
Breathing heavily, eyes fixed on my reflection, I surrendered to the unforeknown words pouring from my lips, a new edict rising up from within me as though it had always been there. There was nothing I could do to stop it, and to my alarm it spilled from my mouth, riding on breath drawn not from my fleshly lungs, but from somewhere deeper . . . my very soul . . .

“Hear me now, my beloved, my bride,
Set me as a seal upon thine heart,
Mine eyes shall look upon thee, for thou cannot hide,
Two hearts become one, no longer apart,
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away,
Let these eyes behold what is mine,
I am coming for thee, I shall not delay,
Through ancient ways long past, I’ve divined.”

I braced myself for another explosion of wind, but there wasn’t one—it was calm, like a still ocean. My eyes were glued to the glass as I tried to focus on the murky image within. There was something . . . someone maybe. I couldn’t make it out.
A fleeting moment and the apparition became clear, chasing my breath away with a rush of emotion. My knees gave, and I fell upon them but held fast to the mirror’s frame.
It was by sheer will that I was able to steady my trembling hand so that it remained touching the glass. The earlier hold it had over me was gone—all my actions were now my own free will.
My flesh burned, and I gasped for breath, struggling to absorb the strong and terrifying emotions engulfing me. Fierce, white-hot love and desire awakened within me, like a Phoenix rising, until my very heart and soul were consumed by it.
My gaze crawled over every inch of the mind-boggling vision shown to me in the mirror, as shock melted into immense longing—longing so strong I felt the need to weep and could only breathe out a mere whisper.
“Mother of God’s own Son—have I crossed through heaven’s gates? Where on this earth—?”

Phoenix Under Siege
Book 4

Devon has laid claim to Elz--marrying her in twenty-first-century America as well as nineteenth-century England. He hopes it will grant a respite from others who are drawn to the flame in her eyes.

During a trip to London, Devon's hopes are dashed as he thwarts an attempt to kidnap Elz. While investigating who is behind the attack, he finds himself at a crossroads and is forced to enlist the aid of his friend turned rival, Symond Grayson, the Duke of Graburn. In an act of compassion gone horribly wrong, Devon's marriage to Elz is threatened and his world is turned upside down. The door is opened for Symond, and the duke has every intention of walking through it.

With their love in as much danger as their lives, Devon has no choice but to send Elz far from Symond's reach while he contends with their foes--old and new. Battered from all sides, Devon is under siege, and the stakes are raised as Elz and the Phoenix bloodline are placed in jeopardy. Devon could lose Elz forever if another can win her heart.

Phoenix Untamed
Book 5

It's Christmas at Wedlove Castle.

Elz, mostly recovered from her recent ordeal, has flourished under Devon's training and 1829 comes to a close with a double wedding on Christmas Day.

Pris and Kyle's excitement is unmatched, except by the anticipation shared by Jarrett and Jaymi, while Devon and Elz eagerly await the birth of their son, Eros.

But three miles west, at Castle Gray, Symond Grayson has made a drastic decision that changes his relationship with Devon and Elz forever.

And while the wedding celebrations continue, Reed Valli, Elz's brother, finds himself ensnared by a lovely young lady who thrusts them both into a compromising situation.

Phoenix Unanchored
Book 6

Modern day history buff Elz Phoenix used to daydream of being a Southern belle in 1850s America. Now married to a man who can give her the world in any time, she’s doing exactly that. As their two families travel down the east coast, a new contender is drawn to the fire in Elz’s eyes. But no challenger could dissuade Devon from defending his heart’s desire, not even the daunting McGrail brothers, fresh from the Scottish Highlands.

Meanwhile, Griffin Valli is tired of time-hopping. He may be Elz’s brother, but history wasn’t on his list of favorites in college. After a few failed attempts at nineteenth-century romance, he’s headed home to the women of the twenty-first century as soon as the family vacation is over. He’s never liked charades, and he likes the games of high society even less. But then he crosses paths with a daring young lady and realizes his heart is in danger. Though he’s eager for a lover, Griffin has no intention of falling for the beautiful Mars LaFrance. Even so, fate is going to give him a run for his money.

Ryder’s Club, Boston, Massachusetts
Present day

Elz Valli

I couldn’t stop staring at the guy up in Ryder’s balcony who looked like Devon. Now facing me with his back to Ryder, he squatted to examine my sculpture.
      My heart raced.
“Look, Jay. Look at the expression on his face.”
      Jaymi watched him.
“Elz, I think he just said, ‘Oh my God.’”
“I think he did, too! Do you see how stunned he looks? He recognizes the man in the sculpture, I can tell. But my big question is, does he recognize himself? Could he be Devon, or do you think he’s just another of Devon’s descendants like Jarrett is?”
“I don’t know,” she said. “I mean, of course he could be his descendant, but you have to admit, he would have to be his twin descendant. They’re identical.”
A knot of disappointment balled in my stomach.
“Well, that’s not impossible. You remember what I told you about Devon’s wife? We could be identical twins. Oh, let’s get real. I’m only kidding myself. Devon is a nineteenth-century ghost, no longer a flesh and blood man. It’s stupid of me to assume he could be that guy up there in Ryder’s balcony. But, oh, what wouldn’t I give?”
I felt my color returning. Jaymi had stopped fanning me a couple of minutes earlier, but I still couldn’t take my eyes from the unbelievable man I wished was Devon. Who was he?
He stood and, with a pensive expression, walked back to reclaim his seat. A moment passed, and…
Our eyes collided, and my stomach felt like it took a nosedive out of a plane. The club was packed, and the guy didn’t even scan the room first—just turned and locked eyes with me.
Oh God, oh God, oh God! Is he Devon?
Neither of us pulled away from the other, and my heart was no longer beating; it was vibrating with a vengeance.
      Please let him be Devon.
His steady gaze was paralyzing as he eased forward to pick up his drink and again rested back in his seat. My chest did a rapid rise and fall, and a delicious shiver rippled through me.
The guy seemed so sure of himself . . . so capable. He looked so much like Devon I was actually wondering if he was.
      But how could he be?
I realized he was honoring me with a toast when he lifted his drink, giving me a tilted nod. The corner of his beautiful mouth lifted in a debonair smile and . . . zing! Straight through my heart and into my soul!
      Oh, lordy! Stay calm, Elz.
Trying to come off looking as sophisticated as he had, I lifted my drink and returned his gesture.
His smile stretched wider at my response, and I was on fire from the crazy chemistry being created between us—a chemistry I was convinced could be felt all around the room and by anyone witnessing it.

To Dodge a Duke by Naomi Boom

Title: To Dodge a Duke
Author: Naomi Boom
Genre: Historical Romance / Regency

When a duke gets a chance to pursue a lady as someone else, he would be a fool not to take it.

Logan Eastworth, the Tenth Duke of Waking, returns to England to find a woman to marry. When Miss Eleanor Ashford assumes he holds the title of baronet, he does not correct her error. Instead, he plays on her misconception and arranges a house party where he can make her fall for him and not his title.

Miss Ashford desires a marriage of convenience to an earl or higher. Not to some low-life baronet with an estate in the far reaches of England. She has no time for love, even if the green-eyed baronet with a charming smile tries to convince her otherwise.

Miss Ashford has a choice to make. To wed a duke or the baronet setting her heart aflame. Her choice might not be as simple as she believes.

Logan smirked and stood to tower over her. “I think you welcomed my advances very much. I would prove it if you ask.”

Eleanor glared at him and took a step back. “That is unnecessary. I already know I did not appreciate the first example.” Besides, even if she had enjoyed it, it would be inadvisable for her to allow another kiss to transpire. His smirk remained glued to his handsome face, and she said, “Oh, stop it. You think much too highly of yourself.”

He chuckled in response and took a step closer. Eleanor, naturally, took another step back until he reached out and pulled her to him in a rough embrace. Incensed, Eleanor asked, “Who do you think you are? There is never an acceptable time for you to behave so impudently toward me!”

His arm imprisoned her as he smiled down on her. “Isn’t there? Would it have been preferable to fall into the ravine?”

She swung her head around to find they stood mere steps from the rushing waters. She gulped and turned to face him. Obviously, it was best to stay away from the ravine, but she would not concede his point. “Yes. It would have been much more desirable.”

Author Bio:

Naomi Boom is an author who never expected to love writing. Her inspiration struck when she searched for the perfect historical romance novel to read. Nothing sounded appealing, so she decided to write her own. That one novel has morphed into a series, and hopefully many, many more.

She resides in her home state of South Dakota with her husband and toddler. Her dream is to someday find an acreage where she can raise chickens, and continue her writing.

The Dragon's Valentine by C.D. Gorri

“She's given up on love, but he’s just begun…”

After five hundred years of servitude, Dragon shifter Callius Falk and his three brothers are finally freed from their bonds. Callius has one mission, to find his true mate.

Winifred Castillo spends her days working as an assistant realtor for Maccon City Estates and her nights tending bar at The Thirsty Dog. She’s completely sworn off men. For good!

But what’s a Werewolf to do when a dark-haired stranger with golden eyes and rippling muscles tells her she is his mate?

My Review:

I read a shortened version of The Dragon’s Valentine by C.D. Gorri as part of Claiming My Valentine: A Collection of 14 Paranormal Romances and enjoyed it.

I love C.D. Gorri's Grazi Kelly, Angela Tanner & Macconwood tales, so I was looking forward to reading this extended version of The Dragon’s Valentine and finding out how it fits together with the other books.

Unsurprisingly I was not disappointed, C.D. Gorri has a way of writing that sucks you into the world she has created. A world of werewolves, witches and now... dragons.

Yes!! Dragons are real and one of them has claimed Winifred (a member of The Macconwood Wolf Pack) as his mate.

This is a hot and steamy story, which, although it's set within the world that C.D. Gorri has created, is a wonderful stand alone read.

Dragons are my favourite supernatural creatures and I can't wait to find out more about Callius Falk and his brothers.

The Author:

C.D. Gorri always wanted to be an author. An avid reader, she has a profound love for books and literature that she shares with her friends and family. When she’s not writing she can usually be found with a book in her hand.

She resides in her home state of New Jersey with her husband, their children, and their dogs, Dash and Chewie.

C.D. Gorri first entered the world of literature with the release of her YA paranormal fiction series, the Grazi Kelly Novels. They start with Wolf Moon, Hunter Moon, Rebel Moon, and the recently released book four, Winter Moon.

She soon added a spin-off YA series found exclusively on Amazon starting with Casting Magic: The Angela Tanner Files #1. Available #free on Kindle Unlimited.

An avid reader of romance novels, C.D. was anxious to delve into her first Adult Paranormal series, featuring the Macconwood Pack as introduced in her YA novels. Charley’s Christmas Wolf is the first in the series and is exclusively found on Amazon. Cat’s Howl: A Macconwood Pack Novel is the second installment in the series.
