About Lisa Dawn Wadler:

Lisa began writing after reading yet another romance novel where the heroine needed a man to rescue her from physical harm. While a firm believer in the strong alpha-male hero in any story, she wondered what would happen if that hero met a woman who was able to take care of herself physically. Using her several years of Tae Kwon Do training and mixing in time travel, her multi-award winning debut novel, The Draig’s Woman was born.

Lisa lives in the Chicago suburbs and is married to her high school sweetheart. They have two children and one very spoiled dog.

Guest Post by Lisa Dawn Wadler:

Why blogging isn’t important to me

I shouldn’t say blogging isn’t important to me as an author, but rather that I don’t have time to do it. There is that pesky full-time job that eats up over forty hours a week, a marriage, two kids, a dog that demands regular walk, a house to clean, loads of laundry waiting to be done – you get the idea. Plus, when I do find those stolen free moments, I would rather work on my next book.

My question to you is does the blog truly influence your book buying habits? In theory, if you read my blogs, you will want to read my books. But if you’re reading blogs, when do you read books? You must be busy too.

Sure, I have a great meatloaf recipe. It’s a crowd pleaser. Just in case you do care about meatloaf, I use a recipe from The Barefoot Contessa – Ina rocks the meatloaf.

Yes, I’m making light of blogging. My apologies if you truly enjoy them. Yet here I am writing one.
In case you’ve never heard of my books, I write Scottish Time Travel Romance. My twist is that my heroines – that I send back in time to medieval Scotland – all have martials arts backgrounds. Why? Why not. As a middle-aged black belt, I grew tired of waiting for the heroine to be saved when she could do it - one good punch or twist and the threat would be gone. Though my action sequences have a bit more to them.

Only in a romance novel does the hero swoop in just in the nick of time to save the damsel in distress. Real life doesn’t work that way. Assuming this audience is mainly women – the reality of danger is present every day – you know it and I know it. We teach our daughters to be careful while instructing our sons to be better. If you don’t listen to your gut instincts, start now.

Until utopia arrives, be prepared. I doubt everyone has the time or interest to delve into a four-year program to become a black belt. Do me a favor and take a self-defense class. Learn how to save yourself. Be your own heroine and take your daughters with you.

Should you find yourself with blessed quiet time, try one of my books. Maybe you’ll enjoy the stories designed to entertain and take you away from reality. Perhaps you could read while the meatloaf bakes – it does take over an hour. If you try Ina’s turkey meatloaf recipe, know that I substitute beef – it’s delicious. I won’t even go into my use of gluten-free breadcrumbs – that’s a blog I will likely never write.
